Nijo Market is a public market in Sapporo where locals shop for produces, seafood and other food stuffs. One of the favorite activities of the locals is having a seafood breakfast while visiting. The most popular items are Kaisendon (rice bowl topped with seafood) or Uni (sea urchin) and Ikura (salmon eggs) donburi.
Hitsujigaoka Hill offer a panoramic view of Sapporo City. The hill with gentle slopes was developed as a sheep breeding station in 1906. Hitsugigaoka literally means 'hill of sheep'.
Okurayama Observatory is originally a stadium for ski jump during the 1972 Winter Olympic. The top is accessible by chair lifts where you can have a spectacular view of the city. At the bottom is the Sapporo Winter Sport Museum.
Like many Japanese cities, Sapporo has its own style of Ramen-and it is quite famous. Ramen Yokocho (lit. ramen side street) is a little section of Susukino with about 20 ramen shops, where competition benefits the customer with quality and economy. The basic Sapporo Ramen has a miso soup base, but soy sauce- and salt-based soups are also available. Many offer specialty ramen utilizing local foods such as crab, scallop, corn, and butter, and these are not available anywhere else in the country. Locals often come to Susukino to drink and socialize, then finish their evening with a bowl of ramen at Ramen Yokocho. There is also the Shin-Ramen Yokocho, also in Susukino, and Menkoi Street along Tanuki-koji.
“Shiroi Koibito” is one of the most popular cookies in Hokkaido. Shiroi Koibito, translated literally, means white lover. It is two thin pieces of butter cookies with a layer of white chocolate in between. The Shiroi Koibito Park is a small theme park with a café serving different kind of dessert and beverages; and a chocolate factory where visitors can observe the production process of the immensely popular chocolate cookies.
Sapporo Beer Museum. Sapporo Brewery was first established during the Meiji era in 1876. The brewmaster was trained by German and the original brew was a Lager. Over the decades, with a couple of mergers, the company grow to become a international brewery and diverse into other business such as soft drinks and restaurants. The company also brews Yebisu Beer, one of the oldest brands of Japanese beers. The Beer Garden is adjacent to the Museum, it serves different brews of Sapporo beer and "Ghenis Khan" style barbecued mutton.
