Queenstown Day Tour
Lake Wakatipu, 80 km in length, is the longest lake in and the third largest in New Zealand. The lake is very deep, its floor being as low as 100 meters below sea level. Surrounded by hastily rising mountains from its shores, the lake has an active and unusual rhythmic rise and fall in water level at roughly 12 cm every 5 minutes. The lake is also renowned for its scenic beauty.
The Remarkables is a mountain range in Otago, South Island of New Zealand. It is located on the Southeastern shore of Lake Wakatipu, creates a magnificent backdrop for the water, and is visible from the nearby Queenstown. The highest point of the range is at Double Cone with a height of 2,340 meters. It is a popular ski area in the winter.
Kawarau Bridge is the first commercial 43-meter Bungy jump site. Popularized by a daredevil named A.J. Hackett, mimicking Vanuatu tribesmen who leapt from mountain cliffs attached to vines. It attracts thousands of visitors each year, experiencing the death-defying activity of bungy jumping.
Arrowtown, a historic gold mining town lies 20 km from Queenstown. It is a near perfectly preserved gold-rush settlement. By browsing Buckingham Street, its main boulevard, with a charming row of pioneer schist-stone cottages, shops, pubs, and restaurants, you’ll have an idea of what life must have been like during the pioneering days of the gold rush era.
